Mark Brusse - born in 1937, in Alkmaar the Netherlands.
Settles in Paris in 1960. He has soon contact with Pierre Restany and the “Nouveaux Realistes”, with Robert Filliou and other fluxus related artists. 1961, first one-man exhibition I the Galerie du Haut Pavé in Paris, cause of this exhibition he was selected by the “Jeune Critique” for the Paris-Biennale. In 1965 he goes with a grand of the Harkness Foundation for 2 years to New York, where he participates actively in the dynamic art scene of the moment. Back in Europe, he has in 1968 a one-man exhibition in the Stedeljk Museum of Amsterdam, and the next year he represents France for the sculpture section at the Paris-Biennale, with an installation made of wood “Occupation de l’espace” From 1970-1972, he lives with a DAAD fellowship in Berlin, Street actions and his first collaboration with John Cage. (A second time in Berlin as well in 1977.) 1975 the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris gives him a one-man exhibition, and he is invited for the Venice-Biennale. In 1987 he is invited by Gérard Xuriguera and Pierre Restany for the sculpture symposium at the Olympic park in Seoul. His first monumental sculpture 12 meters high is followed by others in Japan, Equador, Taiwan, Portugal, Andorra, and Puerto-Rico, Morocco and at the airport of Amsterdam.

On initiative of Alex Mlynarcik in 1969 the French art historian Pierre Restany invited me to come to Bratislava to make a site-specific work in the park of Piestany, I could never have thought that 40 years later, again thanks to Alex, I would come back to this city.
Many things changed in all these years; Bratislava changed, I myself changed, in consequence of that, my work as well.
Something what touched me deeply 40 year ago, just one year after the brutal invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Soviets, there was the exceptional positive dynamic and generous attitude of the people I had the occasion to meet.
The fact, in spite of all what changed, I am here again invited to show my work in your city. That makes one thing clear; this generous mentality survived. I am very happy to exhibit in your museum (Galéria mesta Bratislavy a Považská galéria umenia v Žiline) a very personnel choice of my work to give you an idea of what happened in all those years to me.
